Workforce Diversity & Inclusion Represented As WVWD Welcomes New Assistant General Manager

Walnut, CA (April 7, 2022) – Walnut Valley Water District (WVWD) welcomed Jared Macias, the youngest and first Latino Assistant General Manager at the agency on Monday, March 14 of this year. Mr. Macias was selected from a competitive pool of industry leaders by the executive staff at WVWD, noting his commitment to workforce development and passion for water and the professionals committed to this vital resource.
Mr. Macias previously served as the Assistant Director of Utilities, Water Operations for the City of Azusa’s Light and Water Department and began his career in the industry nearly 15 years ago as a Utility Worker/Meter Reader for the East Pasadena Water Company. His fast track to executive management is a testament to his leadership, professional skillset, and ability to establish necessary partnerships for the advancement of quality drinking water internally and externally.
“It’s an honor to step into this leadership role at WVWD and to be trusted by my colleagues to serve the community and family of water professionals with integrity, humility, and diligence,” said Jared Macias, Assistant General Manager. “It’s not a responsibility I take lightly, I am fully committed to a lifetime of public service and ensuring that the District steps into the future with the tools it needs to address critical issues of resiliency, water equity and affordability, and responsiveness to rapid climate change that will impact the way we all use water for years to come.”
Mr. Macias’s education includes an associate’s degree in Business Administration from Mt. San Antonio College, and he is certified in water distribution and water treatment. Education is a priority for Macias as he seeks to continue this journey to obtain his bachelor’s degree. His educational journey as an established water professional is a testament to the various pathways of success that are offered by the water industry and is representative of the need to include diversity in the workforce at every level.
