Diamond Bar HOA Saves Water with $9,500 Irrigation Upgrade at No Cost

What if your HOA could save water, improve its landscaping, and receive nearly $10,000 in irrigation upgrades, at no cost?
That’s exactly what happened at Ridgeline Homeowners Association in Diamond Bar through a partnership with Walnut Valley Water District (WVWD).
Working alongside the HOA, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and WaterWise Consulting, WVWD helped identify opportunities to make the community’s irrigation system more efficient. After completing a water-use assessment, the team upgraded the landscape irrigation system with drip irrigation equipment and high-efficiency sprinkler nozzles.
The improvements, valued at approximately $9,500, were completed at no cost to the HOA and are expected to save more than 500,000 gallons of water every year.
“This is exactly the kind of partnership we love to build,” said Lily Lopez, Director of External Affairs & Sustainability for WVWD. “Many HOAs don’t realize these resources exist. Our goal is to help communities navigate the process, connect them with available funding, and make water-saving improvements that benefit both residents and the region.”
For Ridgeline HOA Board Member Pam Delgado, the experience showed what can happen when local agencies and residents work together.
“The irrigation project at Ridgeline HOA would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of Donna DiLaura from Walnut Valley Water District and Austin Black from WaterWise Consulting,” said Delgado. “I am grateful for their leadership in bringing everything together to make this project a reality.”
Austin Black, Project Manager with WaterWise Consulting, said the upgrades will have a lasting impact.
“WaterWise Consulting was proud to partner with WVWD to install these water-saving irrigation fixtures, which have the potential to save more than half a million gallons of water each year.”
WVWD encourages HOAs, property managers, businesses, and large landscape customers to explore similar opportunities. District staff can help identify available water-savings programs, evaluate irrigation systems, and connect customers with rebates and funding that make water-saving improvements easier than ever.
