WVWD Takes Early Action to Prepare for El Niño Storm Season

Walnut Valley Water District (WVWD) begins emergency preparedness efforts to protect critical water infrastructure and maintain reliable service

WALNUT, CA — Before the rain starts falling, WVWD is taking action to make sure its water system, employees and emergency resources are ready.

Following California’s recent state of emergency proclamation to strengthen preparations for the developing El Niño season, WVWD has begun enhanced internal emergency preparedness efforts focused on maintaining reliable water service and responding quickly if severe weather impacts the region.

District teams are reviewing emergency procedures, conducting preparedness training and evaluating critical facilities to make sure essential equipment and resources are ready when needed.

“Preparing for an emergency starts long before the first storm arrives,” said Jared Macias, Interim General Manager. “Our responsibility is to anticipate what could impact our water system and make sure our people, equipment and facilities are ready to respond. Taking these steps now helps us protect reliable water service and better serve our community when conditions become challenging.”

WVWD’s preparations are designed to address potential impacts from heavy rain, high winds, flooding, power outages, road closures and other conditions that could affect District facilities or operations.

Community members also play an important role in being storm ready. WVWD encourages residents and customers to sign up for the District’s emergency notification system to receive timely information about water emergencies and service interruptions by text message.

During an emergency, the District will use its communication channels to share important updates and instructions with affected customers.
