WVWD Remains Focused on Cybersecurity and Water System Protection

Walnut Valley Water District (WVWD) is aware of recent cybersecurity incidents affecting water utilities and other critical infrastructure across the country. These incidents are an important reminder that protecting our water system requires ongoing attention and investment.

Cybersecurity is a priority at WVWD. The District takes a proactive approach to protecting its technology, water system operations, and customer information.

WVWD regularly reviews its systems for potential risks, monitors for suspicious activity, and continues to strengthen security measures as threats and technology change. The District also follows cybersecurity guidance and best practices from federal agencies, including the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).

Employees are also an important part of this work. WVWD staff receive ongoing training to help identify phishing attempts, suspicious online activity, and other potential threats.

The District has no record of a successful breach of its systems. Like all critical infrastructure providers, the District is subject to ongoing attempted cyber activity. For security reasons, the District does not discuss the details of its cybersecurity operations. However, Walnut Valley Water District continuously monitors its systems, follows established incident response procedures, and works proactively to strengthen its cybersecurity posture in accordance with industry best practices and federal guidance. 

No organization can promise that a cyberattack will never occur. WVWD can promise that protecting our water system and customer information will remain a priority. The District will continue to invest in its people, technology, monitoring, and security practices to help provide safe and reliable water service to our community.
