Job Description:

Walnut Valley Water District is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to fill the position of External Affairs & Sustainability Coordinator I/II. This role will be instrumental in driving the District’s external affairs efforts and advancing sustainability initiatives to benefit the community and environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. External Affairs Management: Develop and implement strategies to enhance the District’s external relations, including community outreach, public relations, and media communications.
  2. Sustainability Coordination: Lead sustainability efforts by researching, recommending, and implementing environmentally friendly practices and initiatives within the District’s operations.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with government agencies, community organizations, and other stakeholders to promote the District’s sustainability goals and initiatives.
  4. Policy Analysis: Stay informed about relevant legislation, regulations, and industry trends related to sustainability and external affairs, providing recommendations to support the District’s objectives.
  5. Communication and Reporting: Prepare clear and concise reports, presentations, and materials to communicate sustainability efforts and achievements to internal and external stakeholders.
  6. Event Coordination: Plan, coordinate, and participate in events, workshops, and outreach activities to promote the District’s sustainability initiatives and engage with the community.
  7. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with internal departments, including Operations, Finance, and Planning, to integrate sustainability practices into daily operations and long-term planning.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Communications, Marketing/Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Graphic Design, Film Production, Media Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration, Environmental Studies, Water Use Efficiency, Water Resources Management, Event Management, or a related field.
  • External Affairs & Sustainability Coordinator I: 0-3 years of relevant experience; Coordinator II: 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong communication skills, including writing, public speaking, and interpersonal communication.
  • Knowledge of sustainability principles, environmental regulations, and best practices.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed for meetings and events.
