December 2, 2020

Walnut, CA (December 2, 2020) – Walnut Valley Water District (WVWD) has been awarded two LaBounty Safety Awards from the Association of California Water Agencies Joint Power Insurance Authority (ACWA JPIA) for the third year in a row and two Outreach Awards, the Rising Star Special Outreach Award and the Region 8 Outreach Award, from the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA).

WVWD’s Director of Operations, Tom M. and Production Supervisor, Tom H., were selected as winners by ACWA JPIA for their innovative safety improvements to the District’s facilities. The winning safety project eliminated the use of aqueous ammonia in the District’s chloramination boosting stations in order to reduce employee exposure to harmful chemicals. The H.R. The District was also selected by ACWA as recipients of its Rising Star Special Outreach Award and the Region 8 Outreach Award. The Rising Star Special Outreach Award is awarded to a public water agency that meaningfully engages on any legislative issue of importance to ACWA. The Region 8 Outreach Award is given to a public water agency that actively participates in the California legisltive process by interacting with state representatives and committees to express support or oppoistion on active legislation that directly impacts WVWD’s service area and the overall water community. All of ACWA’s Outreach Awards are designed to increase advocacy efforts to affect the outcomes of legislative decisions and help advance the association’s regulatory agenda.

“This District is proud of its employees as they are recognized for their dedication to safety and outreach,” said General Manger, Erik Hitchman. “The efforts of each team member reflect our overall mission of providing reliable and quality water to the communities we serve.”
