Take a Tour – See your water at work

Guided by Walnut Valley Water District employees, these tours cater to community members interested in gaining insights into their local water district. Participants will be treated to an exclusive view behind the scenes, exploring the intricate network of pumps, pipes, and plants responsible for maintaining a continuous water supply to the community. Throughout the tour, attendees will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the WVWD water system, interact with dedicated water professionals, and receive valuable tips on enhancing water efficiency in their daily lives.
Water Use Surveys (FREE)

Your Home or Business
This FREE indoor/outdoor water survey may be conducted in-person or virtually.
Registration is required, click here.
- In-Person Survey: requires the presence of the homeowner or someone over the age of 18.
- Virtual Survey: is conducted with the assistance of the homeowner. WiFi/internet connection is required and the homeowner will need to have an electronic device such as phone or tablet.
- To participate, the property must be located within the city of Diamond Bar, Walnut, Pomona, Industry, West Covina, and Rowland Heights.
- Only one survey per property may be conducted.
Surveys are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Funding is limited and submitting an application does not guarantee a survey will be provided.
What to Expect
Indoor
- Indoor device information: make, model, age, water factor, water use.
- Observation of problems with indoor devices including but not limited to leaks, damage, and inefficient use.
Outdoor
- Evaluation of water meter to check for leaks.
- Providing controller information: number of controllers, make, model, age, number of stations in operation, program by station.
- Zone/station information: plant material, sprinkler type, micro-climate, and slope conditions.
- Observation of irrigation problems by zone including valve malfunctions, pressure, sprinkler alignment, drainage, leaks, compaction, runoff, and other conditions that reduce irrigation efficiency or indicate overwatering. Observations shall be made before, during, and after each controller station is operated. Auditor will provide training to the customer or landscape maintenance personnel during the virtual site visit and provide instruction on programming and operating the controller(s).
Participants will receive a written report that includes:
- Data collected during the survey.
- Leak information and the site’s irrigation efficiency including system repairs, equipment updates, and irrigation scheduling.
- Information about available financial incentives to help with the cost of recommended improvements.

Capturing the First Flush is more important now than ever, as it improves stream flow, groundwater sources, Green Water Zone, and reduces pollution in waterways. This workshop moves quickly from a review of passive capture in the soil to more advanced topics including considerations for grading properly in urban areas, hillside rainwater capture, and the role of cisterns.

Douglas Kent, author of Firescaping highlights what you can do to protect your home with a fire-resistant landscape.
Mr. Kent will provide specific information for the communities of Diamond Bar, Walnut, and Rowland Heights. He has identified areas of great resistance and areas that can be improved to increase public safety and lives saved.
All COVID-19 safety guidelines as required by L.A. County will be implemented. Face masks are required regardless of vaccination status.

Join SoCal Gas on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, for a free live landscape professional workshop “Irrigation’s Importance: Total Irrigation Run Time,” hosted by Southern California Gas Company in collaboration with The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
Calculating Total Irrigation Run Time (TIRT) is perhaps the most important concept and field skill in irrigation and water management. This session progresses from determining Plant Water Requirements, Plant Available Water, and Precipitation Rates through Distribution Uniformity of irrigation systems and the establishment of an irrigation schedule. Upon understanding how to establish a schedule, the next step is managing the irrigation controller to adjust to real conditions on the ground and in a drought.
